Description
During the Covid 19 lockdown, many had to improvise office spaces at home. Working 8 hours with a laptop is not the most ergonomic thing one can do, I always ended up with pain in the neck. That’s why I got my hands on some MDF and a laser cutter, designing a laptop stand that would improve my “office” space.

Use cases

1. Better posture working from home
2. Pack and use on the go
3. Combine with extra desktop displays

Features

Desk storage
The cavity under the laptop can be used to store items. Clearing space in the desk, and having them easily accessible.

Packing strap
The removable packing strap can be closed in the back to not disturb when the stand is mounted.
Safety holders
When mounted, the laptop is secured to make sure it stays in place. This doubles as a locking feature when packing.
Cable management
The design includes holes for cables, reducing the mess on the desk. It is useful for bulky docking stations, when the laptop is used with more displays.
Packing
The stand is easy to disassemble and fits together like puzzle pieces, packing flat. It´s possible to add a strap to also pack a small keyboard with it.

Fabrication considerations

With laser cutting as the manufacturing method, it’s important to plan for a good nesting. The four pieces can be cut into a piece of material of 360 by 393 mm.

The files are designed for 4mm thickness material. The DXF can be edited to adapt to other thicknesses. It’s recommended to do a small tolerance test before cutting the design, the laser kerf may change between models.

This stand was designed for a lightweight laptop. If the keyboard half of the laptop is thicker than 17 mm, consider editing the DXF. I will make a version if there is enough demand.
